SUMMARY:Mahakala practice
DESCRIPTION:\nThe practice of Mahakala was taught by the Buddha and the transmission passed to the Second Karmapa, Karma Pakshi (1206-1283), down the Kagyü lineage up to the present day. We practice Mahakala mainly to clear away obstacles and for the Dharma — teachings on wisdom and compassion – to flourish and benefit all living beings.\n\n\n\nPractice is in Tibetan. You are welcome to meditate and enjoy tea/coffee before we start.\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Green Tara practice
DESCRIPTION:\nTara is an important practice in the Kagyü lineage and one of the main practices of the 16th Karmapa. In general, we practice Tara for three main reasons: She is powerful, her blessings are fast, and she is immeasurably kind. Green Tara, in particular, symbolizes the fearless and compassionate energy of our mind’s true nature and the resolve to dispel suffering and fear.\n\n\n\nPractice is in Tibetan. Transliteration and English liturgy available.\n

SUMMARY:16th Karmapa’s Guru Yoga Practice
DESCRIPTION:\nTo find happiness and support on the path to full awakening for the benefit of the world, we need to rely on spiritual friends. The practice of guru yoga is, therefore, a profound method to connect with the heart of our teacher and lineage of dharma masters, to receive blessings and help us move away from negative qualities, and cultivate positive qualities in terms of body, speech, and mind.\n\n\n\nRainfall of Nectar\n\n\n\nThe Guru Yoga Sadhana, “Rainfall of Nectar,” composed by the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, is elegantly concise and contains the essential pith instructions of the Vajrayana tradition. \n\n\n\nEvery First Saturday of the Month\n\n\n\nEvery first Saturday of the month, we offer an opportunity to practice His Holiness the 16th Karmapa’s Guru Yoga together. Regardless of whether you are familiar with the practice and who you consider to be your personal teacher, this practice allows us to connect with the enlightened qualities of the Buddha and, in a way, truly become the activity of the Karmapa, embodying the Buddha’s wisdom and compassion. \n\n\n\nRegistration, Offerings & Donations\n\n\n\nMaking an offering or donation is optional and is not required to register for our monthly 16th Gyalwang Karmapa’s Guru Yoga Practice. You can join for free by selecting a ‘free ticket’. If you would like to make a donation to support the stupa project or make an offering to our teachers and resident monastics, please choose an option below.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFulfilling Our Aspirations\n\n\n\nAfter selecting a ‘free ticket’ or making an offering below, the Zoom link and other practical information will be delivered in a confirmation email. \n\n\n\nWe warmly invite you to join us and together fulfill all aspirations for ourselves and others through our devotion and virtuous activities. \n\n\n\nOnline activities like are sometimes also onsite. We will notify all registrants ahead of time. You are welcome beforehand to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and lunch afterwards.\n\n\n\nKarmapa Khyenno!\n

SUMMARY:Tibetan Language Class: Basic Dharma Discourses
DESCRIPTION:\nWould you like to get closer to the heart of the Buddha’s teachings through learning the Tibetan language? Do you wish to deepen your understanding and practice of the Dharma by learning basic conversations and reading in Tibetan?\n\n\n\nIn our weekly online Tibetan Language Class, we focus on daily conversations and, especially, Dharma discourses. Mirroring our Sunday Meditation for All: Dharma Talks, we practice reading and discussing basic Dharma conversations in Tibetan, and explore the art of translating them into our native languages.\n\n\n\nRegistration and Offerings\n\n\n\nMaking an offering or donation is optional and is not required to register for our Tibetan Language Class: Basic Dharma Discourses. You can join for free by selecting a ‘free ticket’. If you would like, you can make a donation to support our Stūpa Project or the facilitation of this class. After selecting a ‘free ticket’ or making an offering below, the Zoom link and other practical information will be delivered in a confirmation email.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearning Together\n\n\n\nSome prior knowledge of Tibetan—or a willingness to do some (supported) self-study of the basics, especially the alphabet and pronunciation—is needed to make the class meaningful for you and for all participants.\n\n\n\nRecordings will be made available to all participants to review or catch up when you can’t join live. If you have any questions about the class, please email communications@karmapacenter16.org ( mailto:communications@karmapacenter16.org )\n\n\n\nWe look forward to studying, contemplating, and discussing the Dharma together through basic Tibetan discourses, and to deepening our practice on the Dharma path—for the benefit of all.\n\n\n\nOnline activities are sometimes also onsite. We will notify all registrants ahead of time. You are welcome beforehand to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and lunch afterwards.\n\n\n\nཀརྨ་པ་མཁྱེན་ནོ།།\n

SUMMARY:Sunday Meditation for All: Shamatha and Vipashyana
DESCRIPTION:\n\n“We have the same basic responsibility which underlies everything in our life. This is getting hold of our mind.” – Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche, A Guide to Shamatha and Vipashyana Meditation\n\n\n\n\nWhen his Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa came to the West, he was asked what practice would be appropriate for Westerners. He said that he felt the most appropriate practice was Mahamudra. \n\n\n\nInspired by the path of simplicity, Thrangu Rinpoche — who was recognized by the 16th Karmapa, served as abbott of Rumtek Monastery, and whom Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche described as the abbott of the Karma Kagyü lineage — taught Shamatha and Vipashyana meditation to students new to, and already practicing, the Dharma. \n\n\n\nAnyone can Practice Meditation, Anytime\n\n\n\nDharma Ebooks recently published a collection of Thrangu Rinpoche’s teachings, A Guide to Shamatha and Vipashyana ( https://dharmaebooks.org/a-guide-to-shamatha-and-vipashyana-meditation/ ), in which Rinpoche explains “that regardless of what our particular responsibilities and work in this life may be, the practice of Mahamudra will be effective in achieving realization.”\n\n\n\nGuided by Rinpoche’s teachings and drawing from the instructions of other Karma Kagyü masters, we will study and contemplate the practice of Shamatha and Vipashyana to take hold of our minds. \n\n\n\nSunday Meditation for All\n\n\n\nMeditation can be practiced by anyone, anywhere, and will benefit ourselves and others in the short and the long term. So, whether you are new to meditation or an experienced practitioner, familiar with the Dharma or simply curious, you are more than welcome to join us on Sunday for our weekly Meditation for All session. \n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaking an Offering\n\n\n\nMaking an offering or donation is optional and is not required to register for our Meditation for All: Shamatha and Vipashyana. You can join for free by selecting “Free Ticket.” If you would like, you can make a donation of any amount to support our Stūpa Project and our weekly meditation session. After selecting a free ticket or making an offering below, the Zoom link and other practical information will be delivered in a confirmation email.\n\n\n\nPurpose of Practice\n\n\n\nThe purpose of all practice, Thrangu Rinpoche says, “is to clear away the negative emotions and thoughts that afflict our mind, thereby allowing our good qualities to develop.” By taking the responsibility of getting hold of our mind through practice, we can develop a state of mental happiness and peace, and be more effective in our actions for the benefit of all beings. \n\n\n\nWe look forward to seeing you on Sunday! Online activities like Meditation for All are sometimes also onsite. We will notify all registrants ahead of time. You are welcome beforehand to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and lunch afterwards. \n\n\n\nKarmapa Khyenno!\n
